Pinhole photography.
Image analysation!
Research.Born 1960, Redhill Surrey, Steven Pippin is an English artist, he is the man who created these pinhole cameras and some other pinhole cameras (above) (made from improvised equipment) .Pippin's work shows a strong interest in the mechanical, which he has said stems from an early childhood memory of seeing his father surrounded by the wires and tubes.Pippin's early work was based on converting furniture in pinhole cameras. In 1999, Pippin was short listed for the Turner Prize at the Tate Gallery in London. His entry was based on the work Laundromat Locomotion, in which he converted a row of 12 washing machines in a laundromat into a series of cameras triggered by trip wires, and then rode a horse through the laundromat to recreate Eadweard Muybridge’s The Horse in Motion (1878). Pippin's more recent work also includes kinetic sculptures, these are sculptures in which movement is perceivable by the viewer.

MY RESPONSE. 1) In this picture it looks like a man leaving the launderettes with his laundry. 2) In the background I can see other washing machines and a light strip that goes right through the mans shoulder area. 3) The image could be circular as it could either be a circular frame or in side a washing machine which would give the image a circular effect. 4) It could be water marks as inside the washing machine there will be water so depending on how the image was processed depends on how the image will turn out. 5) It could be darker round the edges as the washing machine door is curved and will reflect light so the ring of the image is darker. 6) The figure is blurred, as the image suggest to me that he walked past the shutters (maybe trip wires is what set it off) the shutter closed which gave a blurry effect and makes him look transparent. 7)he could have converted the washing into a giant camera. 8) What had inspired you to create this camera and what inspired you to create the placement of the object and people in this image? 9)If i could give this image a name i would call it the the time snap. |
